Description

These Sweet Blueberry Buttermilk Biscuits are the perfect balance of light and fluffy, buttery, and sweet with a burst of fresh blueberries in every bite. They’re easy to make, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet treat any time of day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries (or frozen, if you prefer)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for brushing)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and cut it in using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually pour in the buttermilk and gently mix until a dough forms.
  • Fold in the blueberries carefully to avoid smashing them.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  • Use a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass to cut out biscuits. Re-roll dough scraps as needed.
  • Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, brush the tops with a little milk for a golden finish.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the biscuits have risen beautifully.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving with a dollop of butter or jam.

Notes

  • If using frozen blueberries, do not thaw them before adding to the dough to prevent excess juice.
  • For extra flaky biscuits, handle the dough as gently as possible and avoid overmixing.
  • Make sure your butter is very cold for the best texture!
